The parish church of Lymington, dedicated to St Thomas the Apostle.
There has been a church on this site for more than 800 years; parts of the existing building date back to c1250.
Look out for compound columns and lancet (pointed) windows, typical of the ‘Early English’ style used in 1200-1300. Over the years the church has suffered damage, and has been repaired and remodeled. The tower was built in 1670, the cupola added c 1742, and the columns and galleries in 1792-1810. Extensive restorations were undertaken in 1864, 1911, 1931, and 2011.
Until the early 19th century, music in St Thomas was led by a gallery band. An organ was installed in the west end gallery in 1831. It was rebuilt in 1911.
